What is Heena?

Heena is a plant which has been used for many centuries by countless cultures as a dye. Women have been know to dye their hair with heena, which leaves it soft, Healthy, and Orange-Brown in color. heena is used often by east Indians as a temporary skin dye. It's applied painlessly on top of the skin as a black paste, created by a powder form of the heena plant and a mixture of teas and oils. The Black heena paste is left on top of the skin for as long as possible and then removed. When the paste is removed, it leaves a beautiful orange-brown stain on the skin, which can last up to six weeks.

Heena takes differently on different people and different body parts. The palms of Hands and the soles of feet take the best. a heena can be seen on just about everyone despite their complexion if it's applied to the their soles or palms. As you work your way inward from your soles or palms to your abdomen, the heena gradually doesn't take as well. A heena's take can also be altered by temperature and the length of time which it is left on. The design will appear darker on the skin if the heena paste is kept warmer and on the skin longer. Often when we apply heenas, we recommend that the customer leave the paste on until the next morning. we also have other ways to darken the design, but the design will darken on it's own within the first forty-eight hours of it's life.

About the Designer

Naaz is originally from India, and has lived in the U.S.A. for the past twenty years. She has travelled throughout Europe. She has been in the heena tattoo design business for the past thirty years. Naaz uses heena paste derived from natural powdered leaves which has carefully selected from among the finest heena plants in India (the heena capital of the world.) This affords one the finest results attainable anywhere.

Over the years, heena tattoos have become very well known throughout the U.S.A.. Superstars and celebrities, e.g. Madonna, Liv Tylor, Trudy (the wife of rock singer Sting) and many more have used them.
