The mission of the American
Lung Association is to prevent lung disease and promote lung health. The
American Lung Association is the oldest voluntary health organization
in the United States, with a National Office and constituent and affiliate
associations around the country. Founded in 1904 to fight tuberculosis,
the American Lung Association today fights lung disease in all its forms,
with special emphasis on asthma, tobacco control and environmental health.
The American Lung Association is funded by contributions from the public,
along with gifts and grants from corporations, foundations and government
agencies. The American Lung Association achieves its many successes through
the work of thousands of committed volunteers and staff.
The Program started of with Louise A. Vetter, CEO, of American Lung Association
of the City of New York, and Peter R. Smith ,MD president each one of
them thanked everybody for attending the fundraiser and then introduced
Mr Harmer Johnson ,who conducted an live auction, a pair of Muhammad Ali,
Boxing Trunks in a Frame Auctioned of for $1200.00,vacation packages,
sculptures, art works and many more items were auctioned of for a worth
while cause, after the auctioned items the auctioneer, told the guests
if they purchased a Balloon for a price range of $1000,-$250 the money
will go towards sponsoring Camp Super kids, Which hosts children ages
8-13 for a week long sleep away camp adventure at a facility staffed with
trained medical professionals a good amount of people purchased a red
Balloons and tied it behind their chairs, during the event.
After Dinner Martin I. Saposnick Dinner Chairman From The Remsen Group
Services Inc, was introduced and he said he and is company are proud to
sponsor this great cause .Elizabeth Vargas, ABC News Anchor and Correspondent
was the Emcee for the night, she went onto stay how she was saddened by
the death of Peter Jennings who was one of the greatest Journalist of
our time, and who died of Cancer ,she also went onto say that more woman
die of smoking related disease’s then any other disease out there.
The Life and Breath Honorees for 2005 were, Joseph J.Abularrage,MD,MPH,M
Phil, FAAP of The New York Hospital Queens, Weill Medical college of Cornell
University, E.Neil Schachter ,MD of Mount Sinai school of medicine, and
The Honorable Nydia Valazquez Congresswoman of New York’s 12th District,
she was not able to attend due to her commitment to congress in Washington
Dc, her Husband was in attendance to pick up the award on her behalf.
