NAFE 2005: Best companies for women of color, Multicultural conferenceJuly 20-21, 2005Sheraton Hotel & Towers, NY
On July20-21, 2005, the National Association of Female Executives (NAFE) held its 2005 Multicultural Conference,for Best companies for women of color ,with the Theme being , TRUST. at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers in New York City. It was a wonderful event during which veteran members of the organization mixed and mingled among new members, welcoming them to the organization. The organization is primarily a consortium of women leaders in corporate America, who are demonstrating the qualities necessary to be successful in corporate business—qualities such as fast thinking, risk management, doing business with men and money management. Many of the women from all ethnic backgrounds and gathered at this wonderful event and shared their secrets on how to effectively master these and other business skills.. The event started with a wonderful breakfast.The sounds of Trust,Drum Café of NY sponsored by IBM corporation, the drumming orchestra played while close to 700 of the Female guests joined in,singing and dancing and even some of the women were given drums to play,this was a mini carnival which every body enjoyed immensely.It was a wake up call for the Multicultural Conference, attendees. Conference co-chairs Carol Evans CEO and President,Working Mother Media and Vanessa weaver-coleman Ph.D., CEO Alignment strategies Inc, welcomed guests & thanked the sponsors,they introduced the key note speaker, Marita Golden President & CEO, The Hurston / Wright foundation, her keynote was titled, Listening to your still small voice-Trusting yourself., talked about her latest book,Don’t play in the sun:one womens journey through the color complex, she went onto to say the book was inspired about a lot of her own personal experiences,she went onto to speak about the activism of the 1960’s.It was a great speech each of the Guests were given a copy of her book & she autographed a good amount of them. Following the morning session was a delicious luncheon, Working Mother Best Companies for women of color Panel titled Building Trust: Theory & Practice. Representatives from Working Mother Best Companies for women of color discuss strategies to retain the talent and power of women of color.The panel was Moderated by Vanessa Weaver-Coleman,the panelists who participated were: Natalia Franco VP SGC General Mills, Clarissa Ramos –Cafarelli Snr VP RFSHRT&D JPMorgan Chase, Henry Hernandez,VP (CDO) American Express, Kimberlee Washington Barr,Dir MR&A, pricewaterhousecoopers,Anise wiley-little, Dir, D&W,Allstate insurance co.Tracey Edmonds, Regional VP of CQI, Anthem /wellpoint, Maria Hernandez, Dir ODBR&SS,IBM. A lot of the panelists gave excellent opinions & ideas about building Trust , Ms Coleman the moderator did a great job giving every body on the panel time to speak and get their point across. The Luncheon Keynote speakers where, Pati Martinson and Terrie Bad Hand, co directors of Taos county economic development corporation,their keynote was titled, Shared leadership and Trust: A cultural model for living and working. After the Lunch there was many more panels & seminars, & workshops.In the Evening Working mother Best companies for women of color Gala Awards Dinner,Carol Evans Introduced Virginia C. Fields, Manhattan Borough President & Mayoral Candidate,who spoke briefly & said that she was very happy seeing so many women attending this event & she welcomed every body as being the Boro president. Then Ms Westina Mathews from Merrill Lynch introduced The Guest & Keynote speaker,Dr johnnetta Betsch cole President Bennett College, who delivered a great speech one of the best speeches I have ever hard from a woman, she talked about so many different topics,it was informative & to the point, The Next day There was so many conferences to attend (far too many to cover), were conferences on Cross race Trust Circles:what we need to build Trust,Key note from invisible to envisioning :The power of transformation By Author Helen Zia ,Skill building workshops, Going Global to Gain Success,New Models of Leadership in multicultural corporate America. By Robin Denise Johnson ph.D, Associate professor CSU Pomona/UCLA. Town Hall: Telling our stories, Moderated by Marilyn Johnson, Vice President Market Development,for IBM Corporation,heard different opinions about the conference & how it impacted them,so many ladies got up & testified how the conference,has helped them,there was a lady who made an announcement that she has Lupus ,and was hiding it from her co workers and her bosses, I was the only male to get up & Testify, I had to be very careful before I said anything just incase the ladies through Tomatoes @ me,(LOL),No I am joking,I went on to thank Mrs Carol Evans & her Co for putting a great 2 Day Conference on this magnitude, even me as an male who I learned so much in the 2 days while I was there covering the event,I also went onto say, Mrs Evans should do a conference on a much bigger level,with close to 20,000 females possibly @ the Madison Square Garden.To make this happen of course you need to forge a partnerships with forbes 1000 business companies ,& it can be done, a lot of the fortune 500 Companies read our Liberty News Online Magazine,including a lot of the Marketing representatives, I strongly urge you to call & speak to Mrs Carol Evans President & Ceo Working Mother Media, see website info below.
