Generation Harvest’s Annual Benefit--Summer in the City
June 19, 2003 6:30pm to 10:11pm
West 79th Street Boat Basin Café New York, NY
It was a great evening celebrating City Harvest and the work they do. We had a wonderful time meeting different volunteer and other people who were raising public awareness about City Harvest and hunger in New York—a problem that still exists.
I was fortunate enough to interview Ms. Sue Marks, the Chairwoman of City Harvest, who started his organization because all of the food that goes wasted, and all of the people who go hungry every day. Ms. Marks has devoted 20 years of her life to leading this organization and its objectives
The “sailing” theme was very appropriate for the night—attract 500 of New York City’s young philanthropists between 20 and 40. The event raised over $50,000—enough to feed over 300 children for an entire year.
There were also plenty of food tastings, consisting of delicious tuna sushi and chocolate desserts by Canteen, Serendipity 3, Dawat, Carriage House, La Pain Quotidien, Maison, Lenox Room, lively music (sponsored by BMW), raffle prizes like weekend getaways, sporting events, and dinner at New York City’s top restaurants.
It was a wonderful evening, but, nonetheless, it was also a reminder of the gratitude each one of us must show for the food in front of us—there are still many, many people who aren’t as fortunate. If anyone would like further information, please feel free to visit City Harvest’s website, at www.cityharvest.org.
