Philadelphia, PA
What can I do to Help?
A little about J&R Grassroots. J&R Grassroots Teen Development is a Non Profit Organization founded by Mrs.Rashida, who is the organization’s founder and CEO, and co-founded by Mr. Jalil, the organization’s CO Founder and President. On December 13th, 2003, J&R Grassroots held an awareness concert, the goal being to increase awareness about the AIDS/HIV Virus. One of the major goals of the concert is to show kids how to embrace safer sexual practices and to eliminate the stigma about HIV/AIDS. The concert was a big success, with a national turnout consisting of people from all over the country. The concert featured special guest appearances by Phillies own recording artist, Roscoe P. Cold Chain, Liberty Gospel Singing Group, the StarStrem-rock band, hip-hop music by Tox Burner and Hollow Tips. H.A.D. Organization of N.Y.C., Inc., a guest of the concert, also brought some of its own performers, including, Loco, a Hispanic Reggae Thon singer, who had the people on their feet as he performed. The other group was Da Wolf Pack, a New York-based rap group promoted by “Rock Da’ Block” records. A special guest appearance was made by rapper Stingray. Originally from Chicago, he is now based in New York, and made his way all the way to Philadelphia to give an outstanding performance for this wonderful cause. Also among the attendees was our own Liberty New Online staff, which came to provide exclusive coverage and sponsorship. Liberty News Online was the official online magazine of this crowd-packing event. Fifty youths were recognized, given totebag and certificate presentations by H.A.D. Organization. After all was said and done, the concert raised close to $2000 for Help Against Drugs Organization of N.Y.C., which has been doing incredible humanitarian deeds for over sixteen years. It has helped close to 20,000 youths, homeless, needy, seriously ill and disabled people (people infected with HIV, people with lupus, accident victims and many, many more). H.A.D. has managed to draw its own crowds for over a decade and a half with such grand sports and entertainment celebrities as Muhammad Ali, Jeane Claude Van-Damme, and many other celebrities from the sports, entertainment, political, and fashion arenas. A total of $5000 was raised through different H.A.D. fundraisers, with $2000. coming from the J&R Grassroots organization. We would like to sincerely thank you humanitarian partners, Brother Jalil and Sister Rashida for their tremendous humanitarian work and dedication. Without their help, support and hard work, this goal would have never come to fruition. All of the H.A.D. Board of Directors, the homeless and needy families salute these two wonderful individuals for their outstanding contribution to this humanitarian cause.
H.A.D. is already in plans planning to have JR Grassroots organization do a big, mega-fundraiser in late 2004. Anyone who would like more information about the Philadelphia-based J&R Grassroots organization may request information by emailing JalJabb@aol.com.
