CORE Welcomes Black GOP Delegates

Aug 29, 2004

The Harlem Museum of the City of New York

The Congress of Racial Equality just celebrated its latest event, based on a call for black Americans to develop bold new political tactics and strategies.

Approximately 20 years ago, Roy Innis, the National Chairman of CORE, had written an article about the then President of the United States, Ronald Reagan. In it, he highlighted striking parallels among text published over the last one and a quarter century. Highlighting such groups as Radical Republicans of the 19th Century with the Far Right Conservative Republicans of the 20th Century, Roy showed quite succinctly that history does repeat itself.

This was a great event. Ambassador Faith Whittlesey was honored with a Public Service Award. She is the Chairman of the American Swiss Foundation. Ambassador Whittlesay serves as Chairman of the American Swiss Foundation in New York and Chairman of the Board of Overseers of the Institute of World Politics, a graduate school of diplomacy and national security affairs in Washington, DC. Mrs. Whittlesey is also a Member of the Board of Directors of Christian Freedom International, headquartered in Front Royal, Virginia, an organization dedicated to assisting persecuted Christians around the world, for which she also served as Chairman for three years. The audience was welcomed at the start of the evening by Mr. George W. Holmes, Executive Director of the Conress of Racial Equality. Following Mr. Holmes’s welcome were the singing of the National Anthem and the song “Lift Every Voice and Sing.”, which were both song by Baritone Robert Gardener.Opening remarks were given by Niger Innis, the National Spokesman for CORE. After Mr. Innis had spoken, we heard from Dr. Herbert L. London, the President of the Hudson Institute, who spoke about the overall purpose of the CORE organization. After Mr. London had spoken, the Public Service Award was presented to Faith Whittelsey for her great accomplishments. Mr. Cyril Boynes, Jr, the Director of International Affairs for CORE, gave introductory remarks, followed by Barry Bradford, Teacher at Adlai E. Stevenson High SchoolAcknowledgements were given by Allison Nichols, Brittany Salteil and Sarah Seigel of Adlai E. Stevenson High School. Final remarks were given by Roy Innis, National Chairman & CEO of CORE., followed by live entertainment by the Constant String Trio.

We at Liberty News Online Magazine would like to thank Mr. Roy Innis for inviting us to cover this event. If there is anyone who would like more information about CORE, they may visit our website at http://www.core-online.org/
