Coalition for Haiti

Dec 17, 2004

Adria Hotel, Bayside, NY

000

The Coalition for Haiti was founded with one mission, to better serve the growing Haitian community with regard to health, education, prevention of diseases such as HIV/AIDS, drug and alcohol awareness and counseling, and housing. This was a wonderful event, where guest artist Frantz Emmanuel, a painter from Haiti, displayed Frantz’s his beautiful pieces, which portray using a sense of universal language through his artistry. The elements of Mr. Emmanuel’s, reveal a culture-transparent time frame open to many possibilities. His mission is to portray the timeless mysteries of the subconscious through the languages of his paintings. The Cofha project’s principle purpose is to collaborate with local institutions as well as social agencies in order to serve individuals and families of Haitian descent and to improve the quality of their lives in America. Cofha will be able to provide education to students and young adults about HIV/AIDS drugs and alcohols that are in denial of their drug use. 30,000 to 60,000 Vietnam War veterans are addicted to drugs and alcohol substances. They are more likely to be seriously troubled by this issue. The social impacts that society is going to face if we as citizens do not acknowledge this issue will be appalling.

Cofha provides education, information; referral, pamphlets and literature on drug abuse to those involved. They offer counseling sessions to deter those who abuse the substance and the ones that are on the verge of losing their lives to addiction. The honorees were Astride Fidelia, Jocelyn Mayas, Steve Levy and George Hulse. This was a wonderful event dedicated to a most wonderful cause.
