El Diario La Prensa just held its 10 th Annual Women's Luncheon by honoring 57 outstanding Latinas at 11:30am on Sunday, Mar. 20 th , 2005. Featured were keynote speaker Hillary Clinton, and in addition.
Among this year's recipients of the “Mujeres Destacadas” award were Elizabeth Vargas, Co-Anchor of ABC News 20/20; Jack Torres, Manager of Promotions for Creative Marketing Services, at Spanish Broadcasting Systems; Nina Diaz, Vice President at MTV News & Specials; Ines Ferre, Correspondent for CNN en Espanol; Michelle LaFountain, Reporter for ESPN Deportes; and Nina Garcia, Fashion Director for Elle Magine. El Diaro La Prensa was proud to honor 57 women this year who are doing amazing things on a daily basis and who are real life role models,” said Rossana Rosado, Publisher & CEO of El Diaro La Prensa. “Our honorees represent the diversity that characterizes our Latino community in the Northeast and make up an impressive mosaic of remarkable cultural and professional talent,” she said. The honorees were featured in a special supplement that was published on Sunday, March 20 th . The event featured the honorable New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton as keynote speaker, whose work in advance work in advancing women's causes has helped to inspire current and future generations of women. “We are thrilled to have Senator Clinton be a part of our celebration as her work in both public and private life have been exemplary to the challenges women face and the fortitude needed to meet such demands,” stated Rosado. El Diaro La Prensa takes pride in its commitment to “inform, promote, empower and celebrate our diverse Latino community” and has established a decade-long tradition of honoring Latinas in celebration of International Women's Month. In 2005, El Diaro La Prensa elevates the occasion by awarding $1,000 scholarships to ten young Latinas seeking to advance their education as they prepare for their careers. This year's scholarships were made possible by funding from Lifetime Television, The Axa Foundation, Washington Mutual, and Center Care Health Plan. Past recipients of the Mujeres Destacadas Award have been Esmerelda Santiago – author and Producer; Dr. Antonia Coello-Novello-NYS Health Department Commissioner; and Daphne Rubin Vega – Actress.
