Dominican Week Gala
Aug 11th, 2006
Marriott Marquis Ballroom, NY, NY

At the present moment, Dominacans are the fastest growing group and the second largest group among Hispanics in the New York City Metropolitan area.  The highest section of upper Manhattan.  The community pulsates activity, interaction and dynamism comparable to the Dominican Republic.  So similar are they that Washington Heights is often referred to as “little Dominican Republic.”  Walking thru  this section of New York City, one can listen to the harmonious flow of “merengue” rhythms.  Merengue is a very popular Dominican danc, which has captured a large record industry inside and outside the Dominican Republic.  Dominicans have excelled in the area of civic responsibility.   Within area policy boards and community school boards, the State Assembly and the city council have Dominican representation.  In pursuit of excellence and upgrading their quality of life.  Dominicans comprise a very high percentage of students in higher education.

The Dominican Gala was a very high level event.  All kinds of pageant winners were present, including Miss Dominican NY 2006, Miss Reina Restauracion 2006, Miss El Diario/Prensla, Miss Verrina, 2006, Miss Dominican Festival Queens 2006, and far more to name.  The dinner started off with Mr. Carlos Velazques welcoming the guests from the dais, including pageant and festival organizers, politicians and many more.

Some of the dignitaries included Hatuey De Camps, President of the Revolutionary Dominicano party, who will be running in the Presidential elections very soon, and Francisco Fernandez , the Consulate General of the Republic of Santo Domingo.  Also on hand were Miss Miosotis Munoz, Director of Operations of Washington Hieghts and inwood community from the Honorable Charles B Rangel’s office. Who will be the Parade Grand Marshall   Rafael, Nelson Pina, President of the Dominican Festival Parade, Council Member Miguel Martinez (for the 10th Council District)., and many more important business people who made a contribution to the Dominican communities.  Each of the above diginitaries spoke a bit about the situation in Santo Domingo and also how proud they feel to be the largest Hispanic group in New York—making such a contribution to the New York Economy in a big way.

This was a great event to commemorate this year’s Dominican Week.  It had all of the festivities of a Dominican event.  We at Liberty News Online Magazine like to thank Mr Carlos Velasquez,President GALOS Corp and the producer of the Domican Gala and parade as well as most large Hispanic events worldwide, for his kind invite.for more information feel free to view the website at www.galoscorp.com
