NHS Hosted 24th Annual Gala Honoring Executives of the Bank of New York and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York; Singer Roberta Flack performed
Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City (NHS), the metropolitan area’s largest non-profit housing advocacy organization, honored two top banking executives at its 24th Anniversary Gala on November 28th. Timothy F. Geithner, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and Thomas A. Renyi, Chairman and CEO of the Bank of New York, were recognized for their support of NHS and its vision of making housing affordable and secure for working families. The evenings program was started by Cindy Hsu, WCBS-TV News Anchor and reporter who served as mistress of ceremonies while NHS CEO, Sarah Gerecke elegantly served as the Gala’s host.
In addition, recognition awards were given to two NHS longtime board members for their dedication to NHS and its mission. Reginald Shell, Board Member at NHS Bedford-Stuyvesant received the National Dorothy Richardson Award for Resident Leadership. This award named in honor of Dorothy Richardson of Pittsburgh, a pioneer in the community-based development movement who was the driving force behind the establishment of the first Neighborhood Housing Services resident-led partnership. Shaun Donovan, Commissioner of the NYC Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) had the honor of presenting the Francine C. Justa Award for Neighborhood Preservation to Rubin Wolf, Director of Marketing and Neighborhood Preservation for HPD.
Topping off the evening was world-renown pop vocalists, Roberta Flack. Ms. Flack performed a few of her Grammy-Award winning classics such as “Killing Me Softly” and “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face”.
The event was well-attended by over 350 bankers, insurance executives, government officials and NHS board members from the organization’s seven neighborhood offices The Annual Gala is NHS’ largest fundraising dinner. Last year, the Gala raised approximately $1 million for NHS and its array of programs, which preserve affordable housing, and provide opportunities for homeownership education, financial assistance, and community leadership.
