Lori Sokol ,Founder and Publisher ,of Development New York Magazine and the organizer of the Gala ,made the following statement;Ever since Development New York Magazine Launched in December 2002,I thought long and hard about whether to publish an edition honoring successful women in the real-estate and construction field .I hoped that i wouldn’t have to. I was wrong .

Why tout the specific accomplishments solely of women,I first thought, only to end up singling them out as being special,different,not part of the norm?This nation already has a women’s History Month, Devoting one month (March) to the historical Accomplishments of women,as if during the other 11 months women’s history is less important.I did not wish to replicate this pattern.

But After three years of publishing Development New York,I have been fortunate enough to meet so many women who were worthy of being honored,not only because they serve as shining examples for other women to emulate,but also because they can offer the same for men.

The Top 20 Women In Real-estate & Construction we are honoring tonite,have demonstrated that they can overcome barriers to be successful in real-estate related disciplines previously closed off to them – architecture, engineering, finance, Construction, brokerage, security, development and entrepreneurship.These woman also represent some of the most generous individuals in our industry, illustrated by their support of philanthropic endeavours, involvement in their communities,and commitment to their families.Here,again,we can all learn from their strong devotion to both personal and professional causes.

So we honor these women,we are not just honoring them because of their gender, we are honoring them because of what they have done, and how they have done it.They are leaders for all of us to emulate, regardless of who we are.

Marty Markowitz Brooklyn Borough President,thanked all the women and Congratulated each and every one of them for the great work they have done in their respected fields,he also praised Lori Sokol the organizer of the event,for doing a great job,and he told all the women honoree’s to immediately to move to Brooklyn,in a joking manner.Marilyn King Festa,Deputy Commissioner for Technology and Analysis for NYC Department of Buildings, made remarks and was honored in being part of the event,and she was also picking up the award for the Patricia Lancaster,Commissioner of NYC Department of Buildings, who was not able to attend,because she was on vaccation. Elaine Lengyel,Director of Major Gifts and Planned giving,for Girls Incorporated, thanked Lori Sokol ,who contributed the money for the event and the advertisements to the Girls Inc organization.Other Guests in attendace were the Honorable, Una Clarke Former Council woman and her Daughter,Councilwoman Yvette Clarke.The catering was handled by the one and only Jackies Catering, people enjoyed her food immensely, as well as the desserts, Guests who ate her food already mentioned that they are interested in having her cater her next affair, feel free to log onto Jackies Catering website at www.jacquescatering.net
