Over 200 people attended The Pope’s Army: 500 years of the Papal Swiss Guard, Book signing reception, hosted by the American Swiss Foundation, headed by Ambassador Faith Whittlesey who is the chairman.

The event started of with Ambassador Faith Whittlesey, who welcomed the guests and introduced the Cardinal Edward Egan, Archbishop of  New York, the Cardinal Spoke about Dr Bob Royal’s Book ,he went on to say he did not finish the book fully,but read about half of it ,and was very impressed with what he has read, he also went on to say good things about Dr Royal,he also encouraged people to purchase the book and read it themselves, and he thanked everybody because he had another event to go to.

Ambassador Faith Whittlesey introduced the special guest Colonel Elmar  Th. Mader Commander, Pontifical Swiss Guard Corps from the Vatican, the  Colonel apologized to everybody because he said,I just arrived from the Vatican about one hour ago,and then went onto say,that he did read  The Pope’s Army: 500 years of the Papal Swiss Guard book as he was traveling, by Dr Bob Royal ,he went on to say the book is ver accurate of what it says about the Swiss Guards, he also went on to say that the Swiss Corp Recruits are between the ages of 20-25 when they get recruited,a lot of them are from an professional background, for instance we was a lawyer before he got involved with the Swiss Guard Corps.

Dr Robert Royal, President Faith and Reason Institute ,and the Author of ,The Pope’s Army: 500 years of the Papal Swiss Guard, Mr Royal went on to say Who are these soldiers and why would Switzerland ,the largely Protestant pacifist country, provide an army for the Roman Catholic Pope? During their tenure ,have they ever detected papal spies or surveillance devices? What are some of the dramas they’ve endured throughout their history ? In the 21st century of  terrorism, do they really have a role to play in protecting the pope.Dr Royal went onto to say,he was given unprecedented access into the workings of this modern day elite special forces unit outfitted in Renaissance uniforms designed,as legend goes, by Michelangelo.Through interviews with Commandant Elmar Th. Mader, readers learn about today’s guards,their current operations,their spirit and ethos.Dr Royal said, he himself spent time with the guards in their barracks, went on patrol with them,and entered the innermost checkpoints of the Vatican including the Apostolic Palace where the pope lives and works.

It was a wonderful Event,I look forward to reading Dr Royals Book, and learning more about the Guards who have protected the Popes for the Last 500 years.
