The Network of Arab-American Professionals (NAAP) of New York, established in 2002, held its Fifth Annual Gala with the theme, on February 24th at The Supper Club, an establishment designed in the tradition of a romantic art deco masterpiece that once showcased entertainers such as Eartha Kit, Dorothy Dandridge and Nat King Cole. The event’s theme, “Celebrating Five Years of Unity and Empowerment”, supports this non-sectarian, volunteer-based organization’s dedication to strengthening the Arab-American community and its mission to empower the community through social, cultural, professional and political initiatives.
The evening began with a cocktail reception followed by welcoming remarks, a summary of the history of the NAAP organization including how it was formed, the current number of chapters and locations, and an assessment of its 2006 accomplishments and challenges, delightfully delivered by the charming Eman Ahmed. She emphasized the organization’s goals, initiatives, and the need to advance its mission. Eman also explained how and why she became a member of the organization and why it was important for each member to recruit other Arab-Americans to do the same.
