The
Kip Business Report and Citibank just held its Minority Franchise Buyers
Conference, at York College in Jamaica, under the auspices of Congressman
Gregory Meeks. There was a great turnout, with participants including such
companies like Blackman & Associates, the Jamaica Business Resource
Center, the Greater Jamaica Development Corp., York College Small Business
Development Center, U.S. Small Business Administration, New York City Department
of Small Business Services, Verizon, The Port Authority of New York and
New Jersey, WWRL 1600, A.M., Quizno’s Subs, Domino’s Pizza,
Maui Wowi, Dunkin Donuts, Wing Zone and Subways.
William Thompson was the keynote speaker during the lunch hour. He spoke
about how his office has helped banks like Carver Federal Savings by depositing
$5M and helping them to grow, and in turn helping others in business. He
also said he will be looking to invest close to $150M in different community
banks to help them make loans available to business and community. He praised
Congressman Meeks for putting on a great event, as well as Lloyd Grant,
from KIP Business Report.
This was a great event, with an attendance of close to 300 people. Other
guests in attendance were Councilman Leroy Comerie; John L. Scott; Director
of the Greater Jamaican Development Corp.; Timothy Marshall, President
of Jamaican Business Resource, and many other respected business and corporate
