For the first time in its history, the Summer Fancy Food Show has sold out. The 52nd Summer Fancy Food Show, scheduled from July 9 -11, 2006, in New York City, filled 322,000 square feet of exhibit space and present 2,200 exhibitors, marking close to a 10% increase over the past two years. "NASFT has always leased more space than necessary at Javits, but this year, even after moving all NASFT activities from the exhibit area and stretching the two huge exhibit halls to the limit, we were forced to announce that no additional contracts could be accepted since all the space was filled," said John Roberts, President of the NASFT. The Summer Show drew an estimated 24,000 attendees from all over the country and the world who don't want to miss the opportunity to see and taste 160,000 of the highest quality specialty foods and beverages available.
Other highlights of the Summer Fancy Food Show included:
71 countries represented in the International section, offering foods from around the globe
1,200 domestic companies, featuring specialties from every region of the U.S.
An expanded Educational Program, offering 18 seminars, workshops, tours and special events
Focused Tastings, a self-guided tasting of Whole Grain Products; Rubs/Marinades; and Tropical Fruits
Focused Exhibits Showcase, a display of 1,500 items in five popular categories—now with expanded hours
A 600-plus page Official Show Directory that is used as a food-source reference year-round.
One of the many highlights of the Summer Show was the Meet the Tastemakers® Reception on Monday, July 10, where hundreds of food industry professionals gathered to enjoy signature dishes from 28 leading New York restaurants. They gathered not only for the festive food and drink, but to be among the first to hear the announcements of the Winners of the 34th Annual NASFT Product Awards Competition and the presentation of the 2006 Outstanding Retailer Awards. These prestigious competitions present the best specialty food products in 20 categories and the most outstanding retailers in the specialty food industry today.
Established in 1952, the National Association for the Specialty Food Trade, Inc. (NASFT) is the only U.S. trade association representing all segments of the specialty food industry. Today, there are 2,390 members that produce nearly 180,000 specialty food products. For further information on the Fancy Food Shows®, visit the NASFT's website at http://www.specialtyfood.com
