El
Diario La Prensa recognized 23 of New York City's most prominent and successful
Latinos for their contributions to the local community and the business
world. Among the selected honorees were music legend Eddie Palmieri, La
Mega's morning radio personality Luis Jimenez, Latin music pioneer Ralph
Mercado, and baseball greats Luis Tiant and Bernie Williams. In addition,
several men within the media industry are also being recognized including
Frank Flores, General Manager at SBS-New York, David Puente, Producer of
ABC's 20/20, Mario Bosquez, news anchor for WCBS TV, and Jorge Ramos, news
anchor of New York's Telemundo 47 WNJU. El Diario takes pride in its commitment
to "inform, promote, empower and celebrate our diverse Latino community"
and will continue to honor those who inspire all Latinos to excel.
"We are proud to recognize outstanding men whose talents and leadership impact the lives of so many Latinos and New Yorkers," said Rossana Rosado, Publisher & CEO of El Diario. "Our honorees represent the diversity that characterizes our community in the Northeast and make up an impressive mosaic of role models for our young people," she said. The honorees are featured in a special supplement to be published this Sunday, November 6 th as an insert into El Diario.
In 2005, El Diario elevates the occasion by awarding $1,000 scholarships to six young Latinos entering college. This year's scholarships are made possible by funding from Merrill Lynch, New York Presbyterian Hospital, and Johnnie Walker.
