Youth Renewal Program
Celebrating New York’s Past, Building Israeli’s Future

May 13, 2003

Gotham Hall, NY, NY

1The Youth Renewal Fund (YRF) hosted its annual Gala at Gotham Hall in Manhattan on May 13, 2004. Youth Renewal Fund provides unmatched supplemental educational opportunities for disadvantaged and underprivileged Israeli children. Because of the significant decline in the quality of education in Israeli schools, which has caused parents with adequate financial means to supplement their children’s education with private classes, there has been little or no attention given to the 25% of Israeli children who live below the poverty line in families who cannot afford these lessons. It is this underprivileged population that YRF helps.

With a focus on Israel’s poorest communities, YRF has created programs designed to teach students the basic academic curricula while at the same time exposing them to scientific and technological innovation. The YRF also provides strong network support. The resulting statistics clearly show the efficacy of YRF’s programs. Thus far, over 400 Israeli teachers have participated in YRF training classes and workshop programs, resulting in a significant improvement in the lives of over 30,000 Israli children, through the implementation of over $15 million in education projects. The result: 91% of students have become college bound, having passed university matriculation exams. This rate is almost double Israel’s national average.

YRF creates and implements educational programs for children in Israel’s poorest communities. YRF programs teach students core academic subjects, expose them to innovations in science and technology, and provide them with a strong network of support.

This festive event, which featured a cocktail hour with live entertainment and a silent auction prizes such as dog training lesson packages, Kosher zinfandel, sports packages and other hard-to-obtain luxury itmes, also reminisced of the roaring 20’s—with people dressed in 1920’s attire. There were loads of tasty hors d’ oeuvres, which were catered by RAM Caterers (Gotham’s own, in-house Kosher caterer) all within the elegant setting of Gotham Hall, a landmarked building completed in 1926 as the Greenwich Savings Bank. Over 300 guests were in attendance.

The event raised over $600,000. The evening also featured a seated dinner, also catered by RAM Caterers, and a live auction. The live auction featured yet more hard-to-find items, such as ski and beach vacations, jewelry, spa services, flight time on a private jet, golf outings at exclusive clubs and more.

This event is a highlight of the year for YRF’s community of donors who are prominent professionals, the majority of whom are in their late 30’s and early 40’s and work in investment banking, private equity or other aspects of the financial services sector.
