Lotus
music and dance celebrated its 16th year of continuous public service to
New York City’s international performing arts community with a 16th
Anniversary Gala and Benefit Dinner. Distinguished guests and celebrities
such as:Fox 5 Judge Hatchett, Legendary R&B Singer ,Chuck Jackson,
and his wife, New York Immigration Commissioner Guillermo Linares, Barbados
Consulate General in New York, Jessica Odle, Socialite Sherry
Brofman , Harlem Dance Theatre founder,Arthur Mitchell,Consulate General
of India In Education, Rabindra Nath Panda, World Music Institute’s
Executive and Artistic Director, Robert Browning, Mayi Theatre company
,Chairman Mars Custodio,MD. And many many more guests in attendance from
the greater New York area joined Lotus Music and Dance in celebrating
its achievements in the performance and preservation of traditional arts.
The evening featured a reception and silent auction,a preview of Lotus’ signature piece, a showcase of young talent,such as: Gayathri Malhotra (Sitar), Malika Queano and Zeana Llames (Filipino Tribal Dance), Amira Aziza Roca (Bharata Natyam), Shivani Ray and Shefali Ray (Odissi), Ana Guzman,Georgina Hernandez,Polivia Hernandez,Jonathan Jesus, Ashley Nicole Melendez, and Alondra Nunez and Chelsea Nunez (Flamenco).Lotus –The Energy Within was choreographed and music composition by Guru Shri Durga Charan Ranbir.Dance performers were: Bani Ray (Odissi) Shobha Korambil (Kuchipudi), Nikki Sha (Kathak), Chandra Banerjee (Bharata Natyam), U Win Maung (Burmese), Andrea Del Conte (Flamenco), Ramzi El-Edibi (MiddleEastern).
After a wonderful dinner, Subash Midha , Co-Chairman of the event and the Emcee of the night introduced the four honorees: Daisy Paradis, Sitar, Ralph Samuelson, Director Asian Cultural Council, Sandra Bookman, Weekend News Anchor , WABC-TV, and DJ Rekha NYC,Bhangra Legend.The Other Co-Chairman for the event were David Eastman ,and Rupal Shankar. The Interior Lotus design was created by Jonathan B.Isleib wonderfully spread across the stage.
